NYE COUNTY

The southern boundary of the county is just north of Las Vegas and extends north through the heart of Nevada. Several areas of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and the Berlin Ichthyosaur State Park are found in the northwestern portion of the county. Nearly a third of the county is taken up by the Nevada Test Range and the Nellis AFB bombing range. The air base at Tonopah was home to the F-117 Stealth Fighters while they were undergoing secret tests in the 1970s. Although the northern portion of the county has beautiful mountains and spectacular valleys - such as Big Smokey Valley - filmmakers have only used the harsh desert areas and the numerous mining towns that dot the southern part of the county.
