CARSON CITY COUNTY
On
the western border of Nevada just down Highway 50
from Lake Tahoe is Carson City. The county was
originally named Ormsby County but in th 1980s the
name was changed. The only city in the county is
Carson City. Several historic buildings have been
lost over the years, fortunately, however, numerous
motion pictures have been filmed in the city and have
preserved the quaint nature of the town. In 1897, the
very first motion picture footage taken in Nevada was
of the Corbett-Fitzsimmons heavyweight prizefight
held in Carson City. A plaque has been placed at the
site of the arena (now the Sheriff's Office) by the
Nevada Film Office.
