Welcome to THE NEVADA MOVIE PAGE

This site is devoted to the motion pictures that were made in the state of NEVADA. Few people are aware that filmmaking has been a part of the state's history since 1897 (no, that is not a typo). Since that time there have been nearly 600 movies produced that have used Nevada's scenery (and in some cases their people).

The quest to identify all the motion pictures made in Nevada began many years ago while I was working at a television station in Reno. Several production companies were filming in Northern Nevada (Reno, Carson City and Lake Tahoe). A reporter at the station was writing a piece about the companies and wanted to include some background on other pictures made in the area. I, stupidly, volunteered to do a little research. Now, according to the Nevada Film Office, no one in the state had made a comprehensive list of Nevada films. So, what began as an innocent favor for a friend soon become an all-consumming passion. Litte did I know how long and how hard the research would be.

After only 15 years of researching, writing and traveling around the state, I am happy to announce the publication of the book, THE NEVADA FILMOGRAPHY by McFarland & Co., Inc. The book contains film listings from 1897-2000 with technical data, cast and crew lists, plot synopses, location data, photographs and stories relating to the films' production, awards and handy indices and appendices to find people and places in the films.

This website contains some of the information found in the book. Due to contract restrictions, I can not post all the information, but this site may pique your interest to find a copy and take a closer look.
